The author explains the various types of hydroponic systems. Although some of the diagrams are a little funky, they do give you an idea of what you might like to use.

In later chapters, you will find full details on how to build them yourself.

Useful Hints and Tips

The author has filled Getting Started in Hydroponics with useful little hints and tips that I have not seen elsewhere, and I read a great deal about hydroponics.

One of the questions I hear all of the time is, “I have hard water. Can I use it for my hydroponic systems?”
The answer is a qualified, “Yes.”
The ebook has a great section on how to decide whether or not to use your hard water for your hydroponics.

So to summarize, the author helps you choose:

  • the kind of grow system,
  • the type of lights,
  • which plants to grow,
  • how to germinate your plants,
  • how to fertilize your plants,
  • Why not to use store bought seedlings and
  • which ones might survive the transplant,

and much, much more.

I was impressed with depth of the sections on the various plants and how to grow them hydroponically.

There is even a section in “Getting Started in Hydroponics” on the different types of bugs and how to deal with each of them.

There is another section on common plant diseases and how to deal with them.

The author includes a troubleshooting guide on how to identify the problem(s) your system may be having.

Plans for Mini Farms

The important (to me) sections of the ebook deal with “Plans for Mini Farms.”

The included parts lists, detailed instructions, diagrams and pictures to help build my own system are invaluable.

The author has even sourced some of the harder to find items.

It’s always a problem to find a way to support your system, especially if it has a reservoir that must be lower than the grow section.

This ebook has it, as either a 2’X4’ or 4’X4’ module. With a little thought, you could make it any size that works for you.

The section on how to build this versatile hydroponics stand (HYDROPAD®) alone is worth many times more than the price of this book.

Closet

Grow ClosetThere is even a section on how to build your own grow closet from a knocked down kit from Home Depot, but a similar closet should be available at your local hardware or furniture store.

The section gives sizes, specifications, equipment, and complete conversion plans.

If you have a corner for a closet, you can have a hydroponic system.

Conclusion

If you are at all interested in hydroponic systems, get this 320 page ebook for only $37.

I wish that I had known about it before I started on my own systems. The HYDROPAD® would have been an integral part of my systems.

Although, once this pandemic lock down is over, I may still build one for my balcony.
